Portable Solar Energy Power Stations

Solar energy is a form of energy that is environment friendly, available aplenty and is harnessed both at home and in power grids and power stations. It is mainly because the stock of fossil fuels is dwindling day by day that more and more people are turning to alternative sources of energy for their fueling needs.

Many people have already started using solar energy to power their homes and offices with the use of solar cells and solar panels. However these sources of power are generally permanent and cannot be used in other places.
This is why people are considering the implementation of portable solar energy power stations that can be carried around to use solar energy if and when required.

There are many places where portable solar energy can be used like RVs for camping and boats for long fishing trips. Though this may seem like something for the future, today there actually are portable solar energy power stations. These portable solar energy stations generate energy from sunlight where the generators are usually small enough to be easily moved from place to place.

These portable solar power units use photovoltaic panels, or PV panels in some way or the other. There are portable units that are really small and can be carried in a pocket while there are also some units that have to be moved only with the help of a flat bed trailer or truck.

In fact, many people are today using portable solar power without realizing it.
Pocket calculators have been working with the help of portable solar power for years where exposure of the calculator to sunlight is sufficient for it to store solar power to use on the move.
Garden lights and lights found around swimming pools work with the help of portable solar power.

There are multipurpose portable solar power units that can be carried in cases. They are fold out solar panels that come in the size of your day planner. You just have to open the panel to charge the cell phone battery, GPS or any similar ‘gadget’ wherever you go. Then there are paper thin PV panels which are called ‘powerfilm’ products and a form of solar power.

They can be carried around to recharge batteries for boom boxes when out or use it to recharge your digital camera or camcorder. As long as there is sunlight, you are sure of having portable solar power. There are also flexible PV panels which are rugged and durable, and provide you with portable solar power.

They can be rolled like a sleeping bag, and set up wherever required. There is no harm in dropping it, stepping on it and even dampening it when crossing streams as you are sure of getting your solar energy.

There are larger and more portable solar energy power stations that have one or more photovoltaic panels which requires simple wiring for the input jack and a battery that is called the power pack. It can be connected to your vehicle’s cigarette lighter plug and used when required.

What a great idea – we will definitely look into portable solar energy power unit when we book our camping holiday next year.

at 5% actual efficiency (not just theoretical, hand maintained, or low volume) we would need to COVER 1.12% of the earth’s surface with collectors to provide USA standard of living energy to all 8 billion people. Not allowing for latitude or cloudy days.

Do you think sucking 1/20th of the energy from 1.12% of the Earth’s surface might cause WEATHER changes? you bet. Global weather change the hard way. But at least it would be cooling right?
